The Affordable Care Act has set the Annual Open Enrollment Period as the regular time of year when people may newly enroll or change to a different plan for Individual and Family coverage. The 2018 Annual Enrollment Period closed on December 31, 2017.
The 2019 Open Enrollment Period will be November 1, 2018, through December 15, 2018.
Certain events that occur during the year will trigger a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) when a person may newly enroll in a plan or make a plan change. An individual generally has 60 days from the triggering event to select a plan before the SEP ends. Documentation is required to prove that you are eligible for a Special Enrollment Period.
If you’ve had one or more of these life events occur in the last 60 days outside of the open enrollment period, you can still apply for insurance through the special enrollment period:
